Ma’barif, shu yani?… “Energy Healing?”
There I was, standing among my crystals and sound bowls, sage and incense sticks, proudly participating at a Christmas pop up market last year. Deep in conversation with a potential client about metaphysical manifestation of discordant thoughts into the body which does not heal its sacred energy, my intellectual preaching was stopped, crashed and burned by one simple question from the other side.
“Shu yani? (What the H are you blabbering about?) Energy Healing? Does this have something to do with electricity or sustainability?”*
Just like that, I realized an important truth; the world might not be as ‘woke’ as I think it is.
Coming back to this article, here is my attempt at giving an Energy Healing 101.
The first law of thermodynamics, also known as the Law of Conservation of Energy, states that energy can neither be created nor destroyed; energy can only be transferred or changed from one form to another. For example, turning on a light would seem to produce energy; however, it is electrical energy that is converted. (Thank you Google)
Energy is the capacity to work; it’s the thermodynamic radiation which is emitted from all matters above absolute 0 degrees. Our body is above absolute zero degree, thus it transmutes energy, which we use to perform basic activities, work, walk, talk, type, breath, etc….
This energy flows within our body, through energy meridians, which are like round-abouts for traffic control of energy within our body.
An oversimplification of energy healing could be defined as an efficient management of the internal energy flow, to keep the body in optimal working condition.
A disturbance in your energy flow might lead to disturbance in your physical body. Picture a traffic jam due to faulty signals or due to a car stalling in the middle of the road. Now, picture one of the energy meridians in your body jammed, causing a flow blockage. This might explain why you woke up with a headache, frozen shoulder, knee pain, or just plain bad mood, this morning.
Energy Healing 102
Energy doesn’t just flow on its own accord. It does. But it doesn’t. But it does.
Scratch that.
Energy is impacted by other factors such as temperature, introduction of a new energy force, introduction of matter, or disturbance created by another force. In the case of our internal energy, such forces which impact the energy are our Thoughts, and Emotions.
Quick chicken and egg question – Which came first? Thoughts or Emotions?
Neither, your reality came first. Either it hit you like a boulder in your face, created a ripple effect of negative emotions and discordant thoughts. Or your reality came in the form of a silver lining, or the best possible gift you could have received, elevating your emotions to joy, and thoughts to positive bursts of colors.
Your thoughts create your emotions. Your emotions impact your energy. Your energy then impacts your physical state and your reality. Your reality in turn impacts your thoughts. And so it goes. Welcome to the cycle of “mindset”.
Stay tuned for Chapter 2: What is the connection between energy work and mindset.
