Project Athena founder Lorna met Mel at a confidence workshop for ambitious woman and her energy was just infectious. Turns out they had a lot in common, including sharing a goal of becoming a TedX speaker. She studies motivation, which Lorna find endlessly fascinating. Meet Mel!

Hi lovely ladies! My name is Mel. I consider myself to be a “professional’’ student – both formally (I keep enrolling) and of life.

My interests started in psychology, progressed to education and now rest in life coaching. I have over 6+ years of experience in various non-profit organisations and over 7+ years of experience in education. Both of these fields required me to be a Jack of all trades.

I am currently a Senior Certified Professional Coach (CTA) working towards ICF accreditation. Confidently hoping to be a master of this one!

In my core, I believe its so important to support, encourage and celebrate those around me.

Where are you from and what brought you to Abu Dhabi?

I’m originally from sunny South Africa (if you’ve never been on holiday there – you’re missing out 😉)

My husband and I moved to Abu Dhabi for his work, mid 2018. Initially it was tough being away from family and friends (I’m sure many of you have felt the same). Thankfully, I met some amazing people along the way who graciously made time and opened their homes for visits.

Doing life with a community is so much sweeter.

What should we ask you about?

My main research focus is motivation. However, I am happy to help with any challenges anyone may be facing currently in their personal and/or professional lives.

What is your biggest challenge at the moment?

Giving imposter syndrome the boot!! (think I just did)

What is the best advice you’ve ever received?

Instead of looking at something and finding fault, ask: “What’s right with it?” #gamechanger

What is your favourite quote?

“Being OK with who you are is a revolutionary act. And making someone else feel OK with who they are? That’s downright heroic.” – Ashley Graham

How could our community help you?

Continued support, engagement and mentorship is always welcome.

Feel free to reach out if you are interested to know more about life coaching and how it could help you. I’m only a DM away 😉
